Wisdom’s Plain Talk On Sexuality

Proverbs 5 – 7

 

 

1.                  Observations on how this theme is handled

 

a.                   Sexuality is not regarded as a low and dirty part of human nature.

 

b.                  Sexuality is not glorified as the defining human quality or the most sacred aspect of human experience.

 

c.                   Sexuality is not ignored as if polite people do not speak of it, or as if guidance would make no difference anyhow.

 

 

2.                  Two women: two ways of life

 

a.                   Proverbs 2:16-19

i.                    The strange, forbidden, evil woman

ii.                  She represents immorality

iii.                In the scenes we will read, she appears to entice, tempt, lead astray

 

b.                  Proverbs 3:13-18

i.                    Wisdom

ii.                  She represents how life works

iii.                In these sections she teaches, instructs, appeals

 

 

3.                  Wisdom’s guidance on sexual morality

 

a.                   This is one area of life where you must think of where your behavior will take you in the end.  (Prov. 5:3-6)

 

b.                  Have the common sense to not go near the door which, if entered, will cost you far more than it can ever be worth.  (Prov. 5:7-14)

 

c.                   Keep yourself for a strong, faithful relationship with your partner in marriage which can bless you both with joy.  (Prov. 5:15-20)

 

d.                  Remember that your actions in this part of your life will impact every other relationship in your life.  (Prov. 5:21-23)

 

e.                   Fill your heart with noble things that will discipline you and preserve you.  (Prov. 6:20-26)

 

f.                   Respect the danger that is involved when you enter relationships to which you have no right.  (Prov. 6:27-35)

 

g.                  Be realistic about the material out of which relationships are made and put yourself in situations where you belong.  (Prov. 7:6-27)
