                                              “WHERE THE DISCIPLES WERE”

                                       Homes the Lord Visited after He Was Raised Up

 

1.                  Why are these visits of special interest to us?

 

2.                  Based on the subtitle, what kinds of visits would you have expected him to make?

 

3.                  Case One: where disciples were confused.  Mark 16:12-13; Luke 24:28-32.

a.                   Consider verses 15-16 along with what Mark says.  Why did these two disciples not recognize Jesus?

b.                  From verses 14, 17-24, describe their frame of mind.  Have you ever felt like they were feeling?

c.                   Since they had not recognized Jesus, why do you think they urged him so strongly to stay with them?

d.                  Given the events of that day, what does the phrase “So he went in to day with them” (v. 29) mean to you?

e.                   When did they recognize him?  Why do you think it was at that moment?

f.                   What did these two disciples remember most about his visit with them?

 

4.                  Case Two: where disciples were afraid.  Luke 24:33-42; John 20:19-23.

a.                   What detail illustrates the degree of their fear?

b.                  Had they heard yet that Jesus was alive?

c.                   When Jesus came and stood among them, why did they think they were seeing a spirit?

d.                  What impact did his appearance to them initially have on their hearts?  Why did they have difficulty believing?

e.                   What two things did Jesus do to convince them he was real?

f.                   What is the most noted message that he brought to them?

g.                  What did Jesus want to happen as a result of his visit with them?

 

5.                  Case Three: where a disciple was hesitant.  John 20:24-29.

a.                   What is difference between this visit and the previous one?

b.                  How would you describe the glimpse into Thomas’ character that we are given in verses 24-25?

c.                   How did Thomas respond to the Jesus’ invitation for him to do as he had said he would have to do before he would believe?

d.                  Did Jesus make this visit just for Thomas?

e.                   How can those who have not seen still believe?
